Try this simple, super tasty British bakery classic. An ideal recipe for baking with kids. Makes 6 cheesy puffs.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

320 gpuff pastry (1 sheet pre-rolled)
300 gcheddar cheese
4 rasherssmoked streaky bacon
300 gbaked beans in tomato sauce
1egg

Method

1.

Cut the streaky bacon into small pieces and fry for a minute or two until golden brown, turn off the heat and allow to cool slightly.

2.

Preheat the oven to 220C/430F (200C/390F fan) and unroll the pre-rolled puff pastry sheet. Cut into six even squares, then in the middle of each square add a spoonful of baked beans, sprinkle with the grated cheese and then add some of the cooked bacon bits.

3.

Break and egg in to a small bowl and whisk to make the egg wash, then with a pastry brush, brush the edges of each square with the egg wash.

4.

Now take one corner of the first square and fold it into the middle, then take the corner diagonally opposite and fold it over the previously folded piece (see the image for the shape you're aiming for), then gently press down to hold the pastry in place. Repeat for the remaining squares.

5.

Brush the top of the completed pastries with the egg wash and place on a baking tray lined with baking/parchment paper.

6.

Cook in the center of oven for around 12-15 minutes until golden brown and the cheese has melted. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
